Who We Are

A bit about the team behind #BackTheBeck

#BackTheBeck is run by a small group of local supporters of the Beck Theatre who refused to sit back and watch it disappear and close for good. Following the news that the venue was at risk of shutting its doors forever at the end of the year, we mobilised to help make the community aware of what was happening and to build a campaign to save the venue.

Between us we have worked with many of the local youth groups and dance shows that frequent the theatre and know how it is important to our young people. Some of us used to work for the Beck. Some are connected with outreach and community projects the Beck is involved with; projects that enrich lives for those in our community who have fallen on hard times and need some support.

We are grateful that the team behind this campaign is very well connected - we have had overwhelming support from people who know the venue well because of a direct experience, but have since gone on to be prominent figures in the arts. In fact, there are many Beck Youth Theatre and Summer Project alumni who have gone on to make a career in theatre and the arts because of the Beck.

We have been humbled by the phenomenal support of the local community who have got behind this campaign. Because the unifying thing we all share is a love for that community of which our theatre has been at the centre for 50 years.

The Beck Theatre is more than just bricks and mortar. The work it does for our community by supporting the many local dance schools and youth shows through its doors cannot be understated. The Community Choir brings people from all walks of life together - creating lasting friendships and a sense of togetherness.

Let's save it. #BackTheBeck
